Love looking at your code

March 22, 2007

I came to a personal revelation. The less I hate physically looking at my code as I write it, the longer I end up sitting down and just chugging away.

love your code

Keeping all efficiency stories out of the mix, a nice color palette makes me actually want to work. If my code “looks” good, I’m much more prone to feel like I’m doing well on a project. Also, whenever I get stuck in a rut on a project, a quick theme change usually makes the app feel new again.

Flying in complete contradiction to my above theory is the feeling of accomplishment I get whenever I use vi on a machine other than my own and am faced with the cold stare of white text on black. I chalk this up mostly to the fact that whenever this situation arises, I am usually locked into an epic battle of config files that have been thrown to the winds of time and chance.

I understand that these are a completely self manufactured delusions of success and power, but if baker’s pink has some weight to it, I’m willing to keep giving this a shot.
